Technical Working Group

i ENERGY DATA & STATISTICS I

INTRODUCTION

Energy data & statistics (EDS) has been identified as an important theme during the final stakeholder consultations leading up to the VEPG establishment. Both government agencies and development partners agreed that having a national framework in place for maintenance of a comprehensive, shared energy sector’s database will assist effective planning and implementation of energy programs and projects; this would also help improve coordination among aid providers.

At present, Viet Nam has no formal plan or regulations set up to govern this area although some actions have been taken by the MOIT with support from separate international partners toward creating first specific energy databases. Under the VEPG framework, a thematic working group would operate around matters related to development of an energy database focusing on aspects of energy production and uses. Establishment of such a database should include setting up a legal framework, defining the database contents & parameters, procedures for their updating, publishing and management.
