UNDP Technical meeting on Carbon mechanisms from Article 6 and opportunities for Viet Nam

The Paris Agreement, adopted at the 21st session of the Conference of Parties to UNFCCC in 2015, sets ambitious targets of holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The Paris Agreement established a new framework for voluntary cooperation, to achieve climate mitigation contributions. The Article 6 of the Paris Agreement includes two key provisions on market mechanisms, in particular, Article 6.2 entails bilateral deals between countries and allows countries to use ‘internationally transferred mitigation outcomes’ (ITMOs) to achieve their NDCs through “cooperative approaches” and Article 6.4 envisages a new global offset market under international oversight.

To share the study results on requirement from carbon mechanisms from Article 6, UNDP organize a technical meeting on Carbon mechanisms from Article 6 and opportunities for Viet Nam. The objective of this technical meeting is to provide updates on the requirements to stakeholders for preparing the development of projects under the new mechanisms.
