Using Wind Data to Expand Deployment in Southeast Asia

We are pleased to invite you to participate in an upcoming Clean EDGE Asia Power Sector Learning Series webinar on “Using Wind Data to Expand Deployment in Southeast Asia – Case Studies from the Renewable Energy (RE) Data Explorer,”  hosted by USAID and the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Please join us on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 9:00-10:30 AM Bangkok (ICT) Time.

Wind energy plays a key role within decarbonization strategies. As Southeast Asia emerges as a regional leader in renewable energy, access to accurate wind data is essential in planning new and ongoing wind energy projects. With the region’s growing population and rising development, the demand for clean energy will only increase, driving the need for accurate and dependable data for decision-making.

This webinar will provide an overview of USAID and NREL’s wind resource data set for Southeast Asia. This data, available through the USAID-NREL Advanced Energy Partnership for Asia’s RE Data Explorer geospatial analysis tool, provides free and open access to fine spatial resolution wind data. This first-of-its-kind data set provides 5-minute time series data at a high-fidelity spatial resolution of 3 km to support the informed deployment of wind energy across the region. Researchers will discuss how policymakers, technical advisors, project developers, researchers, and other stakeholders can use this data, along with modeling software, to inform decisions on wind energy project development, long-term energy planning, and power system operations.

The Advanced Energy Partnership for Asia, a collaboration between USAID and NREL to enable advanced energy systems for secure, resilient, and sustainable economic growth across Asia, will present this webinar, which will be moderated by experts from NREL and USAID Southeast Asia Smart Power Program (SPP).
SPEAKERS:

  • Derina Man, Project Leader, NREL
  • Galen Maclaurin, Senior Research Scientist and Group manager, NREL
  • Wind experts from project development sector
