USAID and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) have worked together through the first USAID Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP) and V-LEEP II to enhance Vietnam’s long-term energy strategy development, mobilize private investments for renewable energy, and improve industrial energy efficiency, introducing new tools and modeling approaches for Vietnam’s eighth Power Development Plan (PDP-8). The program supported improved adoption of advanced planning methods and promoted closer inter-agency planning coordination as well as training and model-development support. These efforts strengthened Vietnam’s power planning capabilities and contributed to greater cooperation across planning-responsible power sector agencies.

Experts from USAID Southeast Asia’s Smart Power Program and USAID V-LEEP II will share insights on how to coordinate power development planning, demonstrate the value of a planning “hub” that provides broader access to advanced power planning tools for power sector agencies, and suggest guidelines and principles for improving the quality and coordination of power development planning. Attendees will gain a better understanding of how improved stakeholder coordination and shared planning tools can contribute to better power planning outcomes.
