Managing Risks at the Intersection of Energy Infrastructure Development and Heritage Sites

Initial findings from the USAID and Australia Mekong Safeguards Program publication, CLMTV Infrastructure Financier Profiles Report, indicate that private lenders and investors in the Mekong Subregion need to improve considerations regarding environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks; enhance knowledge of existing methodologies and best practices to mitigate ESG risks; and build capacity to integrate ESG risk principles into infrastructure investing and lending processes.

This fourth event in the Dialogue Series for Infrastructure Investors and Lenders in the Mekong Subregion aims to continue the conversation between relevant stakeholders and build capacity toward strengthened ESG criteria and practices related to large infrastructure projects in the Mekong Subregion. The USAID and Australia Mekong Safeguards Program will introduce its ESG Tutorial to assist financiers and other stakeholders to better understand environmental and social risks and impacts on heritage sites throughout project lifecycles. An expert from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will discuss how reducing negative impacts of large infrastructure on heritage sites can be achieved by using UNESCO Heritage Impact Assessment guidelines. The webinar will also provide relevant best practices from across the Mekong Subregion.
