Energy efficiency (EE) is a relevant and credible theme for VEPG focused dialogues within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change. Targeting the end-users demand side, energy efficiency brings about savings in consumption of electricity and other fuels, thus helping mitigate the sector’s environmental impacts, attain green growth and emissions targets and secure long terms energy security – the same benefits as those achieved with renewable energy in the supply side.
Vietnam has gained some solid momentum in energy efficiency since the inception of the Law on Economical and Efficient Energy Use (2010) and the accomplishment of the National Target Program on Economical and Efficient Energy Use for 2012-2015. Nevertheless, there are significant potentials remaining to be realised to maximise the benefits of EE. The Energy Efficiency TWG operates within the agreed VEPG MOU and TWG TOR to foster energy efficiency initiatives in Vietnam.
